Support Services for Seniors are community-based programs promoting health and well-being while assisting seniors to remain living independently as long as possible. Community based boards of directors are established to administer the Services to Seniors program and assist in developing programs that reflect the needs of seniors in their community. Services may include:
  • Escorted transportation - to medical appointments etc.Available service by volunteers. Mileage and parking is required to reimburse the volunteer
  • Yard & home maintenance referrals - including a registry of fee-for-service workers who provide housekeeping, yard work, snow removal, minor electrical and plumbing services.
  • Daily Hello - a phone call to seniors to ensure well being. If concerns are identified, appropriate actions will be initiated.
  • Information & referrals for community government services - pension information, mobility aids, adult day programs, seniors centers, housing, grocery delivery services, health care services and health education,handicap parking and Manitoba Government Seniors guide.
  • Equipment rentals - wheelchairs, walkers, bath stools, etc.
  • Victoria Lifeline - a monitoring system set up in the senior's home that can be activated by pressing a button. Appropriate help will then follow.
  • E.R.I.C. ia an emergency Response Information Kit that will provide vital information in case of an emergency in your home.
  • Foot care clinics - regularly scheduled in the community or arrangements can be made to visit seniors in their home.
  • Lunch & Learn - Headingley Community Centre Noon - 2:30 p.m.Reservations required!
  • Computer Learning Resource Centre, Recreation and Fitness Information. Contact Macdonald-Headingley Recreation Program and Community Resource Guide.
  • Let No One Be Alone- A new initiative to reach those who live alone and would like to have a chat,visit or join us at the Community Centre.
  • There's A Baboon In Our House and other Manitoba Stories. Our Senior authors and Phoenix School grade 3 and 4 shared their stories and interpretations to produce this beautiful book. Can be purchased at the Headingley Community Centre, RM of Headingley Municipal Offices, our library and Shelmerdine Nurseries and in Winnipeg at McNally Robinson and Craft Cupboard at The Forks.
