Recycling & Waste Collection
 

Curbside pickup every Wednesday (unless a holiday falls on a Wednesday then the pickup will be Tuesday of that week).  Recyclables and garbage should be at the curb by 7:00 a.m.

Recycling Boxes (Green Boxes) are available at the Municipal Office.  Your first box is provided free of charge.  Replacement or extra boxes can be purchased for $10.00 each.

There is a 2 bag per household limit on garbage collection.  Tags for extra bags are $0.50 each and can be purchased at the Municipal Office – 126 Bridge Rd.; Ko’s Foods - 5451 Portage Ave.; or Headingley Foods  - 8515 Roblin Blvd.

The R.M. of Headingley accepts the following items for recycling:

Newspapers   Aluminum cans
Flyers Steel/tin cans
Magazines and catalogues      Glass jars and bottles
Boxboard  Plastic bags
Plastic containers - including PET #1, HDPE #2, #5 and #7

All jars/cans/bottles must be clean.  Place all paper in bags to keep dry (wet paper will not be accepted).  Flatten all plastic jugs, bottles and boxboard.  Corrugated cardboard must be flattened and tied in bundles.  Any items that are not recyclable will be left in the bin.  Styrofoam is not accepted.

Bulk Pickup

Large items, such as appliances and furniture, will be picked up on the regular collection day but arrangements must be made in advance by calling the municipal office by noon Tuesday prior to the collection day.  Appliances containing freon gas require special handling and are subject to a fee of $25.00 per unit.

Household Hazardous Waste

A waste collection and used oil depot is located at Miller Environmental Corp., 1803 Hekla Avenue, for the disposal of Household Hazardous Waste.  Hours of operation are Mon – Fri 9:00 am to 3:00 pm year round, First and Last Sat of each month from Apr 1 to Sept 30 from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm.  There is no charge for this service.  Hazardous Waste includes: Aerosol cans, varnish remover, insect repellent, cleaners (toilet, oven, drain), car batteries, chemical lawn fertilizers, paint brush cleaners/solvents, propane cylinders, antifreeze, BBQ and camping fuel, swimming pool chemicals, weed and insect killer, gasoline, and left over paint.  Hazardous waste should never be placed out for recycling/garbage collection, be dumped in sewers, drains or open bodies of water, buried in the ground, burned, or disposed of in landfills.
