Recreation Services

Recreation Services in the RM of Headingley are provided by the Phoenix Community Club www.headingleyrec.ca, the White Plains Recreation District www.wprd.ca, and the Headingley 55 Plus. These volunteer groups provide a wide variety of recreational services for all ages including baseball, hockey, soccer, child care, skating and other services. In addition tae kwon do, dance, theatre production, and heritage development activities are available in the community.

Individuals interested in volunteering to serve on these organizations should contact the people listed below.

Headingley has two significant community facilities, the Phoenix Community Centre situated in a beautiful sheltered area on the south side of the river, and the Headingley Community Centre, a brand new facility on the north side of Portage Avenue at Bridge Road. The Phoenix Community Centre features two outdoor lighted skating rinks with heated changing rooms, viewing area, and concession stand. The site also contains a hall, playground facility, toboggan slide, and lighted skating trails through the woods.

The Headingley Community Centre features an 11,000 square foot community centre with a 300 seat auditorium, stage, multi-purpose room, and various offices. It is an excellent facility for weddings, banquets, socials, or meetings. The site also features four baseball diamonds.

Development continues on the Headingley River Park, a passive recreation area with walking trails and interpretive sites. Future plans include a picnic area, playground area, and additional interpretive markers.

Privately owned recreation facilities in Headingley include the John Blumberg Sports Complex featuring a 27 hole golf course, multiple lighted baseball diamonds that played host to the 1999 Pan Am Games, and multiple soccer pitches. Other facilities include the Breezy Bend Golf & Country Club which will play host to the 2004 Canadian Mid-Amatuer Championships, Thunder Rapids which features a go-cart track, miniature golf, and batting cages, Cover-all Sportsplex which is primarily an indoor soccer facility, and Champions Nest driving range.
