Spring Road Restrictions
 
Please be advised Spring Weight Restrictions will be implemented Thursday, April 1, 2010 effective 6:00 a.m. Please check Web site daily for updates. SPRING WEIGHT RESTRICTION FOR ALL MUNICIPAL STEETS Public Works may restrict the maximum weight of vehicles operated on those streets that do not have concrete pavement to the extent and for such period of time as is reasonably required to protect the streets from damage and deterioration during spring thaw conditions. Spring weight restrictions are imposed each year during the period April 1 to May 31 inclusive, unless Public Works declares otherwise. Weight restrictions will be imposed on all affected streets in the Municipality of Headingley as follows: Loading up to a maximum of 5,500 kilograms on a steering axle and 65% of normal loading on all axle groups for municipal streets. Please refer to the table below for a summary of maximum allowable axle loads for spring weight restrictions. THE MUNICIPALITY OF HEADINGLEY SPRING WEIGHT RESTRICTION MAXIMUM ALLOWABLE AXLE LOADS VEHICLE TYPE AXLE CONFIGURATION AXLE LOADS (KG) NORMAL 65% OF NORMAL Non - RTAC Truck Tractor Steering Axle 5500 3575 Steering Axle (Excluding Truck Tractor) 7300 4745 Single Axle 9100 5915 Axle Group 16000 10400  Maximum allowable weight is 10 kg for each mm of tire width. ANY PERSON OPERATING A VEHICLE IN CONTRAVENTION OF THESE RESTRICTIONS SHALL BE LIABLE TO A FINE. For more information regarding allowable weights, call the Municipality of Headingley Office at 837-5766 Essential Commodities It is in the public interest that certain commodities and situations be accommodated even during the spring weight restriction period. These are identified as essential commodities and the provision of essential commodities include: 1. Despite the imposition of the 65% of normal axle loads road restrictions, 90% of normal axle loads shall continue to apply to school buses and maintenance vehicles operated by or on behalf of Public Works. 2. Despite the imposition of 65% of normal axle loads road restrictions, a vehicle may transport essential commodities at 90% road restriction weights, using the most direct route. Essential commodities which will not require a permit include: a. Drinking water b. Domestic sewage c. Municipal refuse d. Groceries and pharmaceuticals e. Fuel f. Fertilizer / seed g. Livestock feed h. Equipment and material for emergencies including floods, spills and derailments. 3. For commodities not included above, permits may be issued only to prevent undue hardships or for economic necessity. Examples of commodities that will require a permit from the Public Works Department include irreducible loads of machinery/equipment and grain to satisfy quotas. Other requests will be considered at the discretion of the Public Works Department. No exemption for relief from Level 1 (90%) road restrictions will considered.
